Yes say it again and again and it will help in all areas of life – good and bad.
IT IS WHAT IT IS
It works when you worry about sleeping or eating or others or yourself! Accept it for what it is and then put a change in for next time. Nobody can change the past, but they can change the way they feel about it. I can assure you it doesn’t even matter about the severity of the matter…‘it is what it is’ still works!
Here are some examples:
1. You had the worst sleep ever. ‘It is what it is.’ I can choose to work myself into a state and wonder why and wonder if tonight will be a terrible sleep as well and whether it is because of this or that or I can say to myself: ‘It is what it is’ – you just had a bad sleep last night.
2. Your wife slept with a friend. ‘It is what it is’ What will you do now? What is the best way to handle this?
3. Your son got expelled from School. ‘It is what it is’ What is the plan now?
4. You smashed your car. ‘It is what it is’ Plan B?
5. Your best friend is ignoring you? ‘It is what it is’ Try and be there for them when they are ready is one idea?
6. You received a text you were not expecting. ‘It is what it is’ Knowing it is what it is – how will you respond?
It is what it is takes the emotion away so you just see the problem. When the issue first happens this is a great way to stay calm. Of course some issues require more work than others. You will be able to handle the harder (and sometimes impossible) issues if you start with ‘It is what it is’.
