I can’t get back to sleep
HOW many times do you hear people say: “Once I wake I can’t get back to sleep”. This might make sense if you were disturbed half-an-hour before your normal wake time or even a little more, but not two or three hours. And funnily enough people get up and put washing on, jump on the computer, do chores etc. Unfortunately this activity alerts you too much and wakes up your brain. This might be okay if you can sleep later that day, but if you can’t you will be very tired.
If you wake or are waken more than 45 mins before your normal wake time:
DON’T:
1. tell yourself you are fully awake now
2. have a coffee or anything other than water
3. get busy
Do:
1. get out of bed
2. be relaxed
3. read a book
4. keep the lights low
The plan is you may feel sleepy again. If not you will be resting and recouping that way.
