In an ideal world, I would think as a productive parent, the ideal bedroom routine of teeth, cuddles and a nice chat would take fifteen or 20 minutes.
After doing research this definitely varies, but I would say on average it takes about 35 minutes. The inclusions vary, for some this includes the shower time, stories, tv, cuddles, chats and prayers.
It can be such a special time because everyone is home and safe and ready to rest. However, it can also be stressful because parents are tired and kids are too and it is important the kids sleep so the next day is a success!
And of course, kids will be kids, so the process often takes even longer than necessary! Tonight, my 11-year-old daughter probably took about 35 minutes to be absolutely ready in bed. Her routine is to go to the toilet, floss her teeth and brush her teeth, brush her hair and apply facial cream. The gathering of the teddies was next and then the fluffing of pillows (my job)! My daughter will read in the afternoons during homework time. I had already reminded my daughter to focus and hurry a few times and finally we made it in position and she then realised her arm had baked-on cookie dough on it! Oh and this is one of those unpredictable child moments and I couldn’t help but laugh with her.
My bed-time routine, which includes a shower and facial cleaning and teeth and flossing, probably takes 20 minutes. My King Charles Cavalier is ready at all times!
Teenage research revealed it only took about 10 minutes for some girls!
How long does it take you?
