Do you ever wonder why Sunday night is the only night your child can’t sleep. You say to yourself we had a big weekend, they go to bed earlier than normal, they are definitely tired. Then ask yourself what is different about Sunday as far as a parent is concerned. I know I believe Sunday is a good chance to start the week off well so everyone can have a fresh start. However, kids don’t see this the same.
As adults it is best that it is not drummed into the kids that Sunday is their earlier to bed night; Kids don’t like the thought of this and missing out on action. The best thing parents can do is just act like any other night, but consciously plan for an earlier bed time.
1. don’t make a big deal
2. treat it as a normal night
3. be organised so the bed routine just flows
4. if you keep reminding kids they need to sleep earlier because it is Sunday night – they might find it harder under pressure
5. don’t make Sunday any different, but only you know you can start earlier to prepare dinner etc and be organised.
