The bed dilemmas
Most of us have beds and a lot of times we have new beds which we have sampled for 2 minutes at the shop!
After talking to a friend today she said her and her husband were discussing the bed purchasing dilemma and that one couldn’t truly try before one bought!
I mean – what if one asked to have a sleep for a few hours in the shop?!
The best idea I had: was to research different types and brands thoroughly through Choice Magazine and go to as many shops as possible. Talking to others about their bed and brand may also help.
There are beds with pillow top inserts, different sizes and heights, ensembles or not….the list is quite large.
It is something one has for a decade or so and where one spends nearly half of their life …so don’t rush in.

The last time we purchased a new bed at first it was wonderful ,but within a couple of months we were busy moving the original bed back to our room, the new one was too soft!

Yes exactly….this is what can happen and it doesn’t seem right!! We need a new kind of bed company!

I shall never forget when I moved out and into a flat with a mate of mine. We went to a bed shop to buy a bed EACH. Salesperson made us both test out each bed and insisted that we both lay on each bed at same time to get the “right feel”. Shop was crowded – Embarrasssed!!!!! Still not sure if she mistakenly thought we were a gay couple or was just trying to set us up to look like it?????
Shaz says
Mmmm so were you trying to cover up or uncover…??!!!

Nice try Shaz – but you wont catch me out with a leading question – there is nothing lurking in my closet!!!! – anyone would think you were a journalist 🙂
Best advice when choosing a new bed is to take your time – if salesperson wants a quick answer then just tell them that you will sleep on it!!! 🙂
It is my naive opinion that the people you refer to in your “Sleeping Around” posts are just trying to find the perfect bed?
All jokes aside, the most difficult choice to make is mattress hardness. It depends on the main position you sleep in and a quick guide would be:
– FIRM – best If you lie on your stomach and will help keep your spine aligned.
– MEDIUM – best if you sleep on your back and provides support for your spine, back and neck, as well as extra comfort
– SOFT – best if you sleep on your side because it supports body’s curves and contours.
Perhaps if you ever stay in a Hotel and you had a comfy bed then rip off the covers and check out the type of mattress. However, the big soft pillow top mattress in the 5 star joint that was luxuriously comfy for one night may not seem that way in the long term at home.
Harvey Norman used to offer a bed profiling service. They had this contraption that you would lie on and it would profile your pressure points and tell you the perfect type of mattress – I think it could even cope with couples who both had different sleeping positions? Not sure if they are still doing this or not – perhaps it was just a gimmick???
