Children sleep while parents drive
Some of the most peaceful moments I remember when my daughter was a baby was the peaceful drives home.
The car can be amazing for some parents and at times the only way to soothe a stressed child.
Carrying children from cars and putting them to sleep is successful for some and not for others. You know yourself if you are sleepy you will sleep no matter what the disturbance, however, sometimes this just isn’t the case.
I used to have the garage set up for sleep when my daughter was a toddler. Sometimes I would get home, she would be sound asleep and I thought getting her out of the car would wake her so I would have fans going every which way in the garage, with the car off and windows down and air flowing everywhere, and if I was lucky I would get another half an hour of sleep from my daughter. Of course I checked on her very regularly and I sat in the kitchen which was near the door way to the garage. This set-up just meant she would be happier when she woke and I had a bit of me time. Of course to keep driving can be nice too – especially if the whole family is in the car, however, sometimes it is necessary to go home (petrol reasons, jobs to do etc.).
Unfortunately, sleep can stress us so much if others aren’t going to sleep or they wake or we can’t sleep etc. If sleep is worrying you try and think:
1. sleep will come
2. your kids will improve
3. don’t be afraid to ask friends and family for support
