This is good news for those who want to make their bed, but can’t be bothered. However, it’s bad news for those people who can’t rest without making the bed! Nevertheless, I think there is a solution for both!
Author of ‘How to Cheat at Cleaning’, Jeff Bredenberg, stated that 60% of people did not make their beds. If the sound of little dust mites breeding between your sheets make your skin crawl, I think the non-bed makers are on to something!
According to Jeff, making your bed up tight, without a bump, is a breeding haven:“The average bed can house as many as 1.5 million hideously ugly microscopic creatures called dust mites.”
“The creatures actually produce allergens that your breathe while you are sleeping which is a major cause of asthma and other illnesses,” Jeff stated.
I think the best solution is to neatly pull the doona back, folding it at the end of the bed and flatten out the bottom sheet. It is probably easier without a top sheet, but if you can’t resist, then pull it back also and fold it at the end of the bed. This process is easier than making the bed properly and it kills those horrible little dust mites!!!
It is also good to buy waterproof bed covers which prevent sweat being transferred to your mattress and can reduce dust mites and also washing your sheets regularly in hot water can also help.

Great article! When you have a bed made from the right natural materials and with open air circulation, it is basically a self-cleaning bed! SAMINA has just such a design.
