Australia’s first ever female Deputy Prime Minister and Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, has been in office since 2010, when she took over from former Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd. Being asked if her partner is gay is an example of the most recent type of disrespect Julia often wakes to confront. Image source
In June 2010, Rudd lost the support of his party and resigned and Gillard was elected unopposed as the Leader of the Australia Labor Party. A Federal Election was held on Saturday, 21 August 2010, and Gillard won.
Since being in office, Gillard’s treatment has been appalling. The question often asked is: “Would a male be treated so appallingly?” Well, we don’t know the answer to this, but what we do know how hard it would be waking up to being scrutinised and treated so disrespectfully.
Howard Sattler, Radio DJ, was sacked after asking Gillard, yesterday, if her partner was gay. Gillard has been in a relationship with her partner, Tim Matheson, since 2006.
Gillard has had sandwiches thrown at her at school visits, she has had a television show produced with satire and humour, she has allegedly had a menu made about her and ridiculing her and the list continues.
Treating out leader with disrespect doesn’t say a lot for Australia and it’s morale. The message, such poor behaviour portrays to other Countries, is all negative September 14 is the date for Australia’s next Federal Election.
